tricks and phrases for your dog or puppy: Advanced
commands, tricks and phrases:
Basic Commands, Tricks and phrases: As I mentioned earlier, you can start training dogs when they are still quite young, but remember their little minds are still a bit ‘fuzzy’ so keep it fun and only for very short periods. Because of this only try to teach the basic commands to a puppy less than 16 weeks old. Try not to learn more than one new trick each few days (if they’re easy) or each week if they’re advanced. Your dog needs time to remember things they've learnt and time for it to be permanently memorised. If you try lots of new tricks in a short space of time, you are likely to see your dog doing hybrids of all the tricks they’ve learnt (e.g. trying to roll-over while standing up!!). So they don’t get them right and also get themselves confused, meaning you’ll have to reteach the tricks again but more slowly. TIP: Practise in different surroundings. Once your dog will “come”, “sit” and “stay” indoors, it may take some additional sessions to get the same result outside in a park, this is perfectly normal. Outside distractions will impede your dog’s concentration greatly, but some practice with patience will overcome this. Never physically push a dog into positions, a soft gentle pressure (to guide them) is OK if your need it, but no forcing the dog, it will not help training at all. Never punish your dog whilst in a training session they’re supposed to be fun, so your dog learns to like them! HOW TO TEACH THE INDIVIDUAL TRICKS HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THIS PAGE.
