I have tried the come trick. I can't believe how easily Dinky took
to it. I started off trying it in the house and then last weekend
we took him to a country park trail and let him off his lead - he
came back to us with no bother at all doing the come command.

situation is unusual in that I look after a number of dogs whilst
their owners are away (at the same time, looking after their homes
and any other animals). Thus, I never get to do full training, just
'correct' behaviour patterns that the owner has allowed to develop,
but which are uncomfortable to me, eg mouthing. Using your technique,
I was able to stop a 1-year Labrador from doing this with just three
loud 'ouch and ignores'. Interestingly, he did not resort to his old
behaviour when the owners returned. I carry your book with me as a
